Giving back is the Language of Gratitude: Supporting Your Alma Mata

You’ve graduated from your school and you and your course mates have decided to keep in touch, so you’ve created a group where you can all chat about the good old days, share helpful resources and support each other through challenging times. This is beautiful and worthwhile. But beyond your small group of classmates for example have you considered giving back in a tangible way to the main institution where you were raised?

1. A sports center with facilities: If you had a sports center while you were still a student, chances are some of the sporting gears, and fitness equipment would have experienced a lot of wear and tear over the years. Your group could consider buying new gear like basketball court rings, rackets and bats for table games, or even developing a brand new volleyball court.

2. Renovation of classroom interiors/: You consider repainting, buying new chairs/tables for the students, a new white board, and some state-of-the-art teaching resources for the science, arts and technology laboratories.

3. Scholarships: One way your group can give back in a way that directly impacts on individual students would be to pull together to sponsor the school fees of students in the school. Some criteria for awarding scholarships include:

i) Merit based Scholarships for students with outstanding academic performances

ii) Need based Scholarships for indigent students who have been unable to pay their fees

ii) Specialized Scholarships for students who show great promises in sports, arts, etc.
